Cactus Hotel is in the Makenzie area of Larnaka. Larnaka is the second biggest seaside town, situated at the Southeastern region of the island of Cyprus, in the Mediterranean Sea.
Our hotel is situated a street behind the seashore road, protected from the busy road noises and the loud music of the surrounding bars and restaurants. Yet, it’s just a 4-minute stroll from the sandy Kastella Beach.
A 5-minute walk from the hotel, takes you to the beautiful, recently constructed seafront promenade. Walking 10 minutes to the right, the promenade, takes you to the beautiful Makenzie, a well known and much visited spot, due to its beautiful Blue-Flag beach and lively nightlife offered by traditional and contemporary restaurants and nightclubs.
A 15-minute walk to the left along the promenade, takes you straight to the famous Finikoudes Seafront, with its many restaurants and bars. There you can also find the City Center with its wooden paved streets, shops and cafes.
The Larnaka International Airport, is a 10-minute drive from our hotel, making it, ideal for overnight stays for people travelling in or out of the country. Our location also offers easy access to the highways when you want to explore other towns and parts of the Island.

We offer a total of 58 Rooms, with the option of single or double beds, perfectly suited for couples, and for single occupancy. For families with children, we also offer, baby cots or extra beds. A couple of Interconnecting rooms are also available and can be booked on request and subject to availability.
Our rooms are around 18sq in size with en-suite shower room and a small balcony with a view to the mainland or pool. All rooms are equipped with a TV, individually controlled air-conditioning system, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi access, free Safe box and smoke detector system. You can rent a small fridge in your room upon request.
All en-suite shower rooms, a wash basin, shower and bath amenities (shower gel and shampoo). We maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the rooms with daily servicing. Towels and Bed Sheets are offered only for use in the room and are changed every 3 days.
It is at the beginning of Athens Avenue and it is decorated with the first colonial buildings the British Administration built in Cyprus in 1881. This was the first year the British occupied the island and Larnaka was the biggest port and urban center of the island, so the housing of British colonial administration had to get started from here. The customs warehouses and the customs officer's and chief port master's bureaus have been restored to accommodate theMunicipal Art Gallery, the Historic Archives Museum and the Larnaka Municipal Cultural Services.
Standing proudly at the end of Athens Avenue you simply cannot miss the Larnaka Castle. Founded during the Byzantine era as the first fortification in the 12th century, the first written testimony actually comes from the 14th century. Then, Chronographer Florius Boustronius dates it to the years of Luzignian King James I (1382-1398AD), who built it to protect the harbour of the town. During the same time, the Genovese occupied Famagusta and the Luzignians had to develop another major port for the needs of their kingdom.
Stavrovouni monastery is a Greek Orthodox Monastery constructed on the peak of a mountain by the same name in the District of Larnaca. Dedicated to the Holy Cross, the name of monastery is derived from two words 'stavros ' (cross) and 'vouno' (mountain). According to tradition it was founded in the 4th century by Saint Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, who left a fragment of the Holy Cross to the monastery.
Kastella beach is a beautiful secluded Blue Flag beach, just before the Makenzie Beach were guests can relax on palm-tree covered sunbeds and enjoy drinks, snacks and meals right on the seafront from traditional and contemporary bars and restaurants.
The Mackenzie (also called Makenzy) Beach is considered as one of the favorite beach for local Larnaca families to relax and enjoy the Cyprus sunshine. The beach has very clean and grey sand stretching for almost one kilometer as well as shallow waters making it suitable for families with children.
One of the most famous beaches in south Cyprus, the name 'Phinikoudes' comes from small palm trees which were planted here in 1922. The area in and around the beach is popular for its cafes, restaurants, bars, hotels and mini markets. During the tourist season many facilities have been provided for visitors, such as lifeguards, sun beds, umbrellas and water sports.
The Hala Sultan Tekke mosque overlooking the Salt Lake is one of the holiest Islamic places and a Muslim pilgrimage site. It is built on the tomb of Umm Haram, wet nurse of Prophet Mohammed and wife of Ouvadas Ibn. The simple grave has now transformed into a beautiful mosque. An extremely sacred shrine, it is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.
A popular sight in Larnaca, Salt Lake is home to nearly 85 species of migratory water birds like flamingos. About 10,000 flamingos visit the lake every year around Jan-Feb. In July-Aug, the lake dries up leaving a thick crust of salt measuring up to 10cm deep. In the Middle Ages, the lake was used to mine salt for commercial purposes, but now it is just a tourist attraction.
Zenobia, a Swedish ferry, was fully loaded with 104 trailers and trucks when she sunk on her maiden voyage to Cyprus in June 1980, off Larnaka’s fishing harbour. The wreck of The Zenobia is now lying on her port side at 42 meters, 1.5km from the shore. The sea bed is at a depth of 42m, and the top of the wreck is 16m below the water surface. The water visibility is up to 50m, with the temperature ranging from 16oC in the winter to 27oC in summer.
This important religious institution of Larnaca was built in 9th century A.D. Devoted to St. Lazarus, he is said to have lived in Kition for about 30 years after his resurrection by Christ. It is believed that the church is erected upon the empty grave of the saint, who is actually buried in France. Eight days before Easter, the icon of Saint Lazarus is carried in a procession through the streets of Larnaca.
This famous site of Larnaca is known to be one of the best-preserved pre-historic sites of the eastern Mediterranean. It contains the remains of a Neolithic settlement dating from 7000 B.C. Located on the main Larnaca-Lemesos road; UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1998. Evidence of the settlement is found in form of farmer's houses, burnt grains of barley and wheat, tombs and defence walls. The artefacts and remains found here are displayed at the Cyprus Museum in Nicosia.
